Requesting a Reduced Course Load
International students in F-1 and J-1 status are required to be registered full time during fall and spring semesters. Limited exceptions can be made.
F-1 and J-1 international students must enroll full-time each semester to meet the requirements of their visa category. If summer is your first or last semester with Penn State, the full-time enrollment requirements apply, including the in-person credit requirements.
Failing to meet enrollment requirements violates your immigration status, which ISSA must report and may jeopardize your active status.
U.S. regulations do allow reduced course loads in restricted situations.
