Klahr named vice provost for Global
Sabine Klahr has been named vice provost for Global, effective May 15. Klahr served as the interim vice provost starting in March 2024 and previously joined Penn State Global as associate vice provost in July 2022.

Two students, eight degrees: Penn State graduates complete quadruple majors
Sé Morrisson and Fiona Combs have quite a few things in common. They are both student marshals in Penn State’s College of the Liberal Arts. They are both Schreyer Honors Scholars. They both call State College, Pennsylvania, their hometown. And, as of May 10, they are each a recipient of four separate bachelor’s degrees.

Second round of Penn State-Auckland seed grant recipients complete projects
Two rounds of co-funded seed grant competitions were launched by Penn State Global, the first in 2020 and second in 2023, resulting in a total of 10 cross-university collaboration projects receiving funding. The 18-month term for the 2023-24 seed grant funded projects has recently completed and all final reports have now been submitted, however, the impact of the research efforts and relationships formed between faculty, staff and students from both institutions continues to generate global impact.

Journalism professor helps build resilience through unique student experiences
Standing 11,000 feet above sea level admiring a nearby glacier and running on adrenaline, Mila Sanina, assistant teaching professor of journalism in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications, was ecstatic. The hike to this elevation was the most physically demanding thing she had done as a teacher. After seeing her student interview a local scientist, she knew the whole trek was worth it.

Penn State submits declaration in response to proposed NSF funding cuts
Penn State has submitted a declaration in support of a lawsuit filed by the Association of American Universities, the American Council on Education, and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, along with 13 research universities, setting forth the importance of funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation to the University's research enterprise and to the resulting extraordinary benefits it provides to the nation’s health, prosperity and security.

First fossil evidence of endangered tropical tree discovered
For the first time, scientists have discovered fossils of a living, endangered tropical tree in Borneo, revealing that Asia’s rainforests have sheltered these ancient giants for millions of years and highlighting the need for their conservation. The team was led by researchers at Penn State.

Record number of Penn State students earn Gilman Scholarship
A record-setting 18 Penn State students across four campuses were selected as recipients of the March 2025 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program scholarship. This nationwide scholarship program is highly competitive, with nearly 10,000 students having applied across the nation, according to Penn State Global and Penn State Undergraduate Research and Fellowship Mentoring.
