D.A.E.

Through hands-on activities and discussions, participants will practice the DAE (Description, Analysis, Evaluation) technique, learning to observe unfamiliar objects and behaviors without assigning immediate value judgments. The workshop emphasizes the importance of frame-shifting when encountering the unfamiliar, fostering self-awareness, and improving cross-cultural understanding. Goals and Objectives

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • To clarify the difference between description (D), analysis (A), and evaluation (E)
  • To demonstrate that people tend to respond to the unfamiliar with subjective value judgments (evaluation), and rarely with objective observations (description)
  • To foster self-awareness of how personal experiences and cultural values influence our evaluation
  • To provide practice in describing, stressing the importance of observation (without assigning a judgement)
  • To appreciate the importance of frame shifting when encountering the unfamiliar
