Education Abroad Fair 2018

The 2018 Penn State Education Abroad Fair will take place on October 17, 2018 in the HUB Alumni Hall from 11:00AM to 4:00PM. This event attracts over 1,000 students interested in study abroad and allows them to explore all of Penn State’s program options.

Education Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation: Bridging Cultures

Come learn the basics of cultural differences that will help prepare you to have more successful and meaningful experiences overseas! During this workshop, we will discuss tips on how to navigate differing cultures successfully. Cultural awareness is vital to a successful cultural immersion, so come learn about some of the cultural situations you may encounter while overseas and learn how to navigate your new environment. New Zealand and Australia: Indigenous Cultural Studies in the Visual Arts Information Session

Earn credit for ART 299 and travel to Australia and New Zealand this summer with the New Zealand and Australia: Indigenous Cultural Studies in the Visual Arts summer education abroad program led by Dr. Angela Rothrock. This three-week course will introduce you to the indigenous cultures of New Zealand and Australia through a study of visual arts texts and through learning about and meeting the people and communities that create them. You will learn about both precolonial and postcolonial indigenous cultures, including their ancient cultural traditions and artistic forms, the impact of colonization on Aboriginal Australians and New Zealand Maori, and the social and cultural position of indigenous people within the contemporary context. You will experience first-hand spectacular environments and natural wonders that are of important cultural significance, including Uluru (Ayers Rock) in Australia’s Outback and New Zealand’s geothermal Rotorua and Bay of Islands.  Course highlights include a visit to a living Maori village, Hobbiton movie set tour, meeting with carving and traditional tattoo masters, visiting an arts community in the Outback, and the annual Sydney Vivid Festival. This information session will be led by Dr. Angela Rothrock who will provide an overview of the program and the application process.

Paying the Way: Funding Your Study Abroad Experience

If you’re thinking about studying abroad but not sure what financial resources are available to you as a Penn State student, Paying the Way will explore resources available to help fund your experience. At this session, we’ll discuss how to utilize your existing financial aid toward the cost of a study abroad programs as well as what scholarships, fellowships, and grants are available. Katy Clark, International Office for Study Abroad & Exchange at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand will be on campus to conduct this information session. The University of Waikato is centrally located on the North Island in the city of Hamilton, just 1.5 hours south of Auckland. Penn State students have the opportunity to spend one semester or a full academic year at the University of Waikato. Attend this information session to learn more about what the University of Waikato and New Zealand has to offer.
