Graduate International Student Orientation (ISO) - Fall 2021 University Park
This is the official page for the University Park campus Fall GRADUATE International Student Orientation. Fall Graduate International Student Orientation will take place in a hybrid model with virtual and in-person opportunities. The dates for in-person Graduate ISO will be August 12-14. The virtual Graduate ISO sessions will take place August 13-14. Students will be able to choose whether they would prefer to attend Graduate ISO in-person or virtually. Students are also invited to complete the Graduate School’s virtual orientation program before the start of the spring semester. Several of the self-paced modules will have a specific focus on international student concerns.
Fall 2021 Graduate International Student Orientation:
If international students would like to come early to start getting vaccinated, there will be vaccines available from the University Health Services and other pharmacies around State College. Penn State insurance begins on August 13 so if you are arriving early and would like to have your health insurance coverage begin early, please contact Student Health Insurance at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fall Graduate International Student Orientation
Fall Graduate International Student Orientation will occur between August 12-14. We will offer options for both in-person and virtual sessions which will contain the same content. Students will be able to register for the time and date that works best for them. Each student only needs to attend one three-hour orientation session. ISO will be led by Graduate International Student Orientation Leaders. We will have separate Orientation Leaders for the virtual and in-person sessions. Topics will include information about the healthcare system in the US, cultural adjustment, campus safety, research and the libraries, and information from Global Programs staff. All international students who are new to campus (including those who started remotely) will participate in International Student Orientation.
What should I expect?
If you decide to attend the ISO in-person, you will meet the rest of the students on the lawn in front of the Westgate Building. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the orientation session to check in. The in-person orientation is going to be a 3-hour session where you will be split into groups and you will meet with your Orientation Leader. We are asking you to wear a mask to in-person ISO. Furthermore, there will be no food served during the session, but drinks will be available.
If you decide to attend the virtual ISO, you will receive the zoom link to virtual ISO the day before your scheduled session. This will also be a 3-hour session led by Orientation Leaders.
